Location: Long Beach, California
It was a "Battle of the Mack's" in Long Beach! Our renowned Veronica Mack got to play against her identical twin sister Christina Mack. Christina is older by 45 minutes. In this sibling rivalry, however, the oldest twin didn't win out. In fact, younger Veronica hit clutch free throws to seal the game, and we won by five!
The twins, nicknamed "V-Mack" and "C-Mack" don't just look alike; they act alike! When they first saw each other, they ran towards one another, gave a quick hug, then at the exact same time, hit each other and ran off in opposite directions laughing.
They play different positions (V-Mack is a 2-guard, C-Mack is a point guard), but their style of play is very similar. They have tight ball handling skills, drain three's all day long, make crazy assists and penetrate from the wing like no other! And, they both wipe the bottom of their shoes off a lot!
V-Mack says they're alike because of all the time they spent together as kids. Said Veronica, "we play similar because growing up we always played together. Since we were 10, we were on the same teams and went to the same camps."
They share off-the-court qualities too. V-Mack remembers when she and C-Mack shared a phone line in high school. If someone who V-Mack did not want to talk to called and asked for her, she would fake as C-Mack and say "Nope, she's not home." No one ever knew the difference because their voices are identical.
The rest of the Mack family also made an appearance at the game. Mama Mack was wearing a Long Beach State shirt with a Fresno State sweat shirt tied around her waist. Grandma Mack was holding up a poster with V-Mack on one side and C-Mack on the other. V-Mack said both Mama and Grandma Mack cried at the game.
Daddy Mack was quiet and just wanted to watch the action. Little Sister Mack, Mary, wanted to see her older twin sisters fight! She wasn't happy that she had to miss school for two days to go to a basketball game and figured if she was going to be there, she should at least get to see some blood!
There were more Long Beach memories in addition to getting to see V-Mack and C-Mack square off. KFC ran out of chicken during a team dinner. We visited the Queen Mary, a historic ship that is said to be haunted. The team practically bought out the $15 store on a shopping trip. The weather was perfect...nothing beats beautiful sunshine in the middle of winter! And, Mindy and Tea (Chantea Fleming), who are both from Southern California, got to see their families!
According to V-Mack, however, getting to see C-Mack was the best memory of the trip.
