FRESNO, Calif. - Dana Harris and Trista Armstrong have been named assistant coaches for the Fresno State equestrian team, joining first-year head coach Chuck Smallwood.
Harris, a Thousand Oaks, Calif., native and Fresno State alumnus, returns to the program for her fourth year with the Bulldogs. She has coached riders extensively in the English, Western and Dressage divisions. Harris also serves as the team's coordinator for the academic study table.
Trista Armstrong joins the Bulldogs this season after serving as an assistant coach at Ohio State last year. Armstrong's experience also extends overseas where she instructed lessons on horsemanship and functional western riding at the Teglgard Ranch in Denmark. Armstrong, a graduate of Oklahoma State, received a bachelor's degree in agricultural education with a minor in animal science and was a four-year member of the Cowgirls' equestrian team.
"I'm very proud to have these assistants on board with our team," Smallwood said. "I've known Dana for 20 years and she brings lots of experience. Trista is a national champion rider and coached at Oklahoma State, which has one of the top equestrian programs in the nation."
Both women join Smallwood, who was named head coach in September, in a program that has existed since 1996.
