FINDLAY, Ohio - Fresno State placed fourth last weekend in a 26-team field at the Tournament of Champions for English riders, hosted by Findlay University.
The Bulldogs were tied for first place after the preliminary round on Saturday before dropping to fourth Sunday with 29 points after losing a pre-determined tiebreaker round to Virginia Intermont.
Senior Michelle Tonello (Santa Paula, Calif.) placed fifth in both the open fences and open flat competitions. Senior Amanda Hancock (Victoria, British Columbia) placed sixth in intermediate fences and junior Leyla Mundy (Santa Barbara, Calif.) placed third in novice fences. Sophomore Megan Hoeffliger (Santa Barbara, Calif.) placed sixth in the open flat competition.
The 'Dogs also defeated last year's Intercollegiate Horse Show Association English champions, Stonehill College.
"We had an awesome tournament - probably the best one we've had yet," assistant coach Dana Harris said.
The Bulldogs will compete in an English-only show at Stanford, Calif., on Jan. 19.
