Bulldog Update
After winning its third competition in as many weeks, the Fresno State men's track and field squad takes a break before participating in its biggest show of the indoor season. The Bulldogs will compete at the 2003 WAC Indoor Championships on the campus of Boise State University in Boise, Idaho. This year's event is scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 27- Saturday, Mar. 1. The tournament serves as a precursor to the NCAA Indoor Championships two weeks later in Fayetteville, Ark.
Three In A Row
Fresno State won its third straight meet last weekend, capturing first place honors at the Bill Cosby Invitational in Reno, Nev. The men recorded 160.5 points to lead a field of 11 teams at the event. Five Bulldog athletes secured first-place finishes in their respective events. Ian Mason won the 5,000-meter run with a time of 16:06.36, Phil Ogilvie took the mile run with a time of 4:17.13, Aaron Vasquez checked in first place in the 400-meter dash with a time of 48.48, Roosevelt Cook's 1:53.56 was good enough to win the 800-meter run and Kyle Carano claimed the title in the triple jump with a leap of 51-9. Mason, Ogilvie, Cook and Carano all established personal best marks in their respective events at the competition.
'Dogs Well-Represented In The WAC
Several Bulldog athletes have already made their mark among conference competitors. There are three members of the Fresno State men's team that currently hold down the top time/mark in the WAC.

Wolf Pack Invitational Recap
Fresno State won its second consecutive competition when the squad edged California 111-106 to capture first place honors at the 2003 Wolf Pack Invitational in Reno, Nev. on Feb. 8. The Bulldogs received first-place finishes in the 200-meter run, 1-mile run and 5000-meter run en route to their victory. Junior Aaron Vasquez posted a season-best Fresno State time of 22.22 in the 200-meter run, while Phillip Ogilvie led all competitors in the 1-mile run, clocking in with a personal-best 4:18.74. Sophomore Kyle Cirrincione took first place honors in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 16:12.13. Sophomore Reggie Allen came in second in the 200-meter and sixth in the 400-meter, while Aaron Vasquez placed third in the 400. Junior Joe Vasquez had a toss of 18.56m in the weight throw, good for third overall.
The Fraley File
Head coach Bob Fraley is in his third season at the helm of the Bulldogs. He also holds the position of Director of Track and Field. Fraley is in charge of the pole vaulting, jumps, hurdles and men's sprint crews. He guided the women to the first ever WAC Outdoor Championship crown in 2001-02 and was named WAC Women's Head Coach of the Year.
WOMEN'S TEAM
Bulldog Update
The Fresno State women's track and field team has its sights set on the 2003 WAC Indoor Championships, slated for Thursday, Feb. 27- Saturday, Mar. 1 in Boise, Idaho. However, the Bulldogs will first take this week off in order to prepare for the biggest meet of the indoor season. The women are coming off a runner-up finish at last weekend's Bill Cosby Invitational, where the team garnered 96 total points. Looking ahead, the NCAA Indoor Championships are scheduled to get underway Mar. 14-15 in Fayetteville, Ark.
Solid Showing At Bill Cosby Invitational
The Bulldog women's squad turned in an impressive performance at last weekend's Bill Cosby Invitational, earning a runner-up finish with 96 points. Host Nevada won the 14-team meet with a total of 167.5 points. Junior Kara June won two separate events to pace the Bulldogs, as she clocked in at 5:03.23 in the mile run and took first in the 3,000-meter run with a time of 10:16.27.93. Senior Bergann Hernandez posted a mark of 12-9 1/2 in the pole vault, while the medley relay team took first with a time of 10:35.28.
Hernandez Soars To The Top
Senior Bergann Hernandez currently leads all WAC pole-vaulters with an indoor best mark of 3.97 (13-0), achieved at the Wolf Pack Invitational last weekend. She followed that up with another solid outing last weekend at the Bill Cosby Invitational, chalking a 3.90 (12-9 1/2). The former mark- a provisional qualifier- represents a personal-best for Hernandez, who is in her fifth year on the squad.

Fresno State took sixth place in the 11-team event with a total of 34.5 points, as Nevada claimed the championship with 194.50 points. Senior Bergann Hernandez won the pole vault with a mark of 13-00 (3.97m)- a provisional qualifying mark and her best of the indoor season. She was the lone Bulldog entrant to win an event. Senior Mandy Hollister placed third in the 400-meter run, checking in at 59.66. Freshman Sharie Joest earned a mark of 5-03 (1.62m) in the high jump, good enough for a third place showing. Junior Kara June took fifth in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:16.99.
