This Week's Match...
Match No. 3: No. 26 Fresno State (1-1) vs. No. 17 UNLV (2-0)
Saturday, 10:30 a.m.
Wathen Tennis Center -- Fresno, Calif.
What's Coming Up
No. 26 Fresno State returns home this week for a match on Saturday against 17th-ranked UNLV at 10:30 a.m. at the Wathen Tennis Center. The contest is part of a doubleheader with the men's team, which takes on Sacramento State at 2 p.m.
What Just Happened
The Bulldogs fell to top-ranked Stanford 6-1 on Saturday. Fresno State's lone victory came at No. 1 singles, where 27th-ranked Chloe Carlotti knocked off No. 17 Amber Liu in three sets. Also extending her opponent to three sets was Lucia Tallo, who fell to No. 13-ranked Alice Barnes 6-1, 4-6, 6-4.
All-Time vs. UNLV
The Rebels lead the all-time series 4-3, with the most recent match played in 2001. Fresno State has won two in a row and three of the last four against UNLV. The two teams began their series in 1990.
Six is Enough, Hopefully
With the season-ending knee injury to Courtney Jantz, Fresno State is now down to just six players for the remainder of the season. And those six players comprise one of the youngest starting lineups in the nation. The Bulldogs regulars consist of four freshmen and two sophomores. Jantz suffered her injury in the season opener against Cal Poly.
Carlotti Rolling
After posting the best freshman season in program history, sophomore Chloe Carlotti hasn't slowed down one big in 2002-03. The All-American has won both of her dual matches, her most recent victory coming over 17th-ranked Amber Liu of Stanford on Saturday. Carlotti, who has an 11-5 record, kick-started her season in the fall when she claimed the Wathen/Hancock Bulldog Classic title by defeating California's Raquel Kops-Jones, currently ranked 12th in the nation, in the finals. It was her second Classic title in a row.
One Tough Schedule
Fresno State is in the middle of a stretch that sees it play five consecutive ranked opponents. Saturday's match with No. 17 UNLV is the second in that string. The Bulldogs got things underway with a 6-1 loss at No. 1 Stanford on Saturday.
