What's Coming Up
Fresno State (5-4) has three matches this week, continuing a very busy March for the team. The 16th-ranked Bulldogs conclude a four-match homestand on Monday at 1 p.m. against No. 38 Pennsylvania. They then hit the road for a match Wednesday against fourth-ranked California. The week concludes with a home contest against No. 27 Arizona at 12:30 p.m.
What's Happened Recently
The Bulldogs went 1-1 last week in their two home matches, defeating No. 49 BYU 5-2 before losing to No. 9 William and Mary 5-2. The loss to the Tribe snapped an 11-match home court winning streak for Fresno State dating back to the beginning of last year. No. 1 singles player Chloe Carlotti, ranked 11th in the nation, won her match against BYU but fell against William and Mary. She is now 17-6 (8-1 dual) on the year.
All-Time vs. This Week's Opponents
Fresno State is 2-0 all-time against Pennsylvania, 0-11 against California and has never played Arizona. The Bulldogs defeated the Quakers 6-1 last year in Fresno and lost to the Golden Bears twice, once in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
Six is Enough, Hopefully
With the season-ending knee injury to Courtney Jantz, Fresno State is down to just six players for the remainder of the season. And those six players comprise one of the youngest starting lineups in the nation. The Bulldogs regulars consist of four freshmen and two sophomores. Jantz suffered her injury in the season opener against Cal Poly.
Epley Meets Old Team
Fresno State head coach Kevin Epley will be looking at a few familiar faces during Saturday's match against 27th-ranked Arizona. Before taking over the Bulldogs, Epley was the assistant coach for the Wildcats during the 1999-00 season. He helped lead U of A to an NCAA Tournament berth.
Ranking Moving Up
Fresno State stayed at 16th in last week's national team rankings. That's the highest the Bulldogs have been since March 19, 2002, when they also checked in at No. 16.
