Friday's first round WNIT game between Fresno State (19-12, 11-7 WAC) and Santa Clara (20-10, 9-5 WCC) has been declared a sellout. The Bulldogs, back in the postseason for the first time since 1990, will be hosting their first playoff game in school history.
The game marks the fifth sellout of the year for Fresno State, which has drawn an average of 1,233 fans in 13 home dates in 2002-03. 11 of the Bulldog's 13 home games have featured crowds of at least 1,000. Fresno State is 11-2 at home this year, including an 11-1 mark in the North Gym.
Fresno State defeated 62-55 at Santa Clara back on Dec. 4 in the fifth game of the season.
The Bulldogs are returning from Tulsa, Okla., where the team earned a runner-up finish in the 2003 WAC Tournament after falling to Louisiana Tech in the championship game. Fresno State is in the midst of its first winning season since 1996-97 and is one victory away from reaching the 20-win mark for the first time since the 1989-90 campaign. The Bulldogs, who finished third in the conference this year, ended last season with a 9-20 overall mark and ninth place in the WAC.
Should Fresno State advance to the second round of the WNIT, there is a possibility that the Bulldogs would host a second game. That announcement would come late Friday evening.
