Baseball Drops Fourth Straight

FRESNO, Calif. - Junior outfielder Pat Breen clubbed a two-out grand slam in the second inning to cap a nine-run frame and help lead Cal Poly to a 13-3 victory over Fresno State Tuesday at Beiden Field.
The 13 runs is a season high for the Mustangs.
Breen's homer was his second of the year as he went 2-for-2 with a single, two walks and four RBI for the game. In the second, the Mustangs sent 12 men to the plate as the Bulldogs surrendered a season high for runs in an inning. All nine runs came with two outs in the frame including five off Fresno State junior left-hander David Griffin (1-1). Griffin went 1.2 innings while allowing five runs (two earned) on six hits.
The Mustangs improved to 10-8 while the Bulldogs fell to 4-11, losing their fourth in a row.
Matt Powers (2-1) tossed 3.1 scoreless innings in relief to earn the victory.
Fresno State junior infielder Casey McGehee went 2-for-4 with a single and a double and now has 184 career hits while playing in the Bulldogs' last 88 games. Junior infielder Chris Patrick singled twice to tally his team-leading sixth multi-hit game of the season and was one of four Bulldogs with two hits on the night.
The Bulldogs return to action Friday when they open WAC play against Hawai'i at 6:35 p.m. at Beiden Field.
