FRESNO, Calif. - Playing tough nose-to-nose ball against BYU, the Fresno State softball team lost a heartbreaker in the bottom of the seventh when Cougar All-America first baseman Oli Keohohou drilled a 3-2 count over the left field fence for a two-run home run and a 6-4 win.
Coming into the game in relief for sophomore right-hander Amanda Wolf, senior right-hander Leslie Poole pitched 3.2 innings and gave up two hits until the home run as she fell to 0-2 on the year.
Starting the game, Wolf pitched 3.0 innings and gave up four runs on three hits while walking three and striking out two.
The Bulldogs outhit the Cougars (11-6) and stranded 10 baserunners to BYU's five in the loss.
BYU (12-7), which scored six runs on six hits with an error, struck first with a two-run frame in the second before adding two more in the fourth and another pair in the seventh.
Fresno State (5-10), which scored four runs on 11 hits and had one error, tallied a run in the fourth before taking the lead in the top of the fifth with a three-run spot and a 4-3 lead.
Highlighting the game for the Bulldogs was freshman shortstop Christina Clark, who went 3-4 with a run, a double, a home run and three RBI. Clark led the top of the fourth off with a solo shot to left field for her fourth home run on the year.
Sophomore first baseman Jamie Southern also went 3-4 while freshman left fielder Nicole Shan also had a multiple-hit game after going 2-4 with a run.
