Softball Swept by Tulsa

TULSA, Okla. - The Fresno State softball team dropped the second game of the Western Athletic Conference doubleheader to Tulsa, 4-1, and fell to 23-20 overall and 4-4 in league play.
The Bulldogs scored their lone run on a solo home run by freshman shortstop Christina Clark. Clark drove the second pitch of the game over dead center field fence for a quick 1-0 lead.
Tulsa, which won the first game 1-0 in 10 innings, scored three runs in the fourth and tacked on another in the fifth as the Golden Hurricane swept Fresno State at home for the first time in school history.
Senior pitcher Leslie Poole took the loss and fell to 6-5 overall after giving up three runs (two earned) on five hits in three innings of play. Freshman right-hander Laura Ferreira pitched the last three innings and gave up one run (earned) on two hits while striking out three.
Along with Clark, sophomore right fielder Jamie Southern, junior designated player Lori Hoffman, senior catcher Pam West, sophomore second baseman Leticia Pacheco and freshman left fielder Nicole Shan all went 1-3.
Tulsa (27-19, 4-2 WAC) got its offensive power from its No. 4-5 batters. Second baseman Danielle Olsen went 2-2 with a run and a double. Third baseman Crissy Strimple went 2-3 with a run, triple and two RBI.
TU's Amy Day recorded the win after giving up one run (earned) on six hits while walking two and striking out one to go to 12-8 overall.
Fresno State is back in action next weekend. The Bulldogs host San Jose State in WAC play on Sat., April 19, 1:00 p.m. The Bulldogs will celebrate Youth Softball Day at Bulldog Diamond that day. Kids will have a chance to meet the team afterwards for an autograph session while Fresno State softball trading cards will be handed out.
