FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno State women's tennis team improved to No. 21 while the men's team dropped to 44th in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association team rankings, released today.
The women's team (11-7), riding a four-match winning streak, moved up four places from No. 25. Earlier in the year, Fresno State rose to No. 16, the highest it had been since the 2000-01 season.
New individual rankings were also released, and Chloe Carlotti remained at No. 8 in singles. One spot above her is Fresno native Raquel Kops-Jones of California, who Carlotti has defeated twice this season. Carlotti, a sophomore from Paris, France, is 25-7 (16-2 dual) and has won six matches in a row.
Although she has been a Bulldog for just the last year and a half, Carlotti already has racked up 58 singles victories, 20th on the all-time list. The record for most career singles wins is held by Dora Djilianova (1996-99), who had 129.
Carlotti, with partner Lucia Tallo, rose to No. 14 in the doubles poll. The tandem has gone 13-2 (9-1 dual) on the year.
The men (13-6), who have won their last six, dropped to No. 44 from No. 38. It marks the first time this year the Bulldogs have dropped in the team poll since entering the season unranked.
The doubles team of Hector Almada and Sergiu Modoc leaped into the national rankings. The tandem, who boast an 11-3 dual match record, are No. 23 in the poll.
The men and women have a doubleheader on Saturday at the Wathen Tennis Center. The men host No. 57 South Alabama at 11 a.m. while the women take on Pacific at 2 p.m.
