FRESNO, Calif. - Junior infielder Casey McGehee was selected in the tenth round by the Chicago Cubs in Major League Baseball's first year player draft Tuesday.
The second team All-WAC selection is in sixth place in school history with 249 career hits and ninth with 131 career RBI. This year he led the squad with 81 hits (fourth in WAC) to mark his third straight year with 80 or more hits. In addition, McGehee was second with a .346 batting average and 32 RBI. He has appeared in Fresno State's last 132 games dating back to May 3, 2001, at TCU.
McGehee was one of 18 players taken from the WAC in the 50 round draft. Rice led the conference with eight players selected highlighted by pitcher David Aardsma going in the first round with the 22nd overall pick to San Francisco.
