Berg Named to 2004 USA Women's National Softball Team

FRESNO, Calif. - USA Softball announced its 18-member squad that will comprise the 2004 USA Women's National Team this morning and former four-time Bulldog All-American and two-time Olympic Gold Medalist Laura Berg (Santa Fe Springs, Calif.) was selected.
Berg has been a part of the USA Softball national system since 1994 when she was member of the USA Team that captured gold at the ISF Women's World Championship in St. John's Newfoundland, Canada. Her USA Softball resume includes two Olympic gold medals, three World Championship gold medals and two Pan Am gold medals.
The 2004 USA Women's National Team will train for the next 12 months in preparation of defense of its back-to-back gold medals captured at the 1996 and 2000 Summer Olympic Games.
The official USA Softball Olympic Team will be trimmed down to 15 players in early January as the Olympic roster consists of 15 players; three players will be considered alternates.
The 2004 USA Women's National Team roster consists of four two-time Olympic gold medalists and six are back from the 2000 USA Olympic Softball Team.
In Olympic competition, the United States boasts two gold medals and a 15-4 overall record. As the undisputed No. 1 team in the world for the past 17 years, the USA has captured the last five World Championships as well as the past five Pan American Games. In fact, on the world level, the USA has compiled a 185-16 record from its competition in the Olympic Games, World Championships and Pan American Games combined.
The United States will enter the 2004 Summer Olympic Games as the No. 1 seed after capturing the World Championship title in 2002.
The 2004 USA Women's National Team will be officially introduced to the media at a press conference on Sept. 16 at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista, Calif.
