Three Bulldogs Still Alive in ITA Regionals

FRESNO, Calif. - Three Fresno State players won twice on Friday and moved into the third round at the ITA Northwest Regional Championships, being played this weekend at Stanford University.
The Bulldogs are headlined by 13th-seeded Lucia Tallo. The senior won her first round match over Amanda Wise of UC Davis 6-0, 6-2. In the second round, Tallo matched up with Pacific's Natalia Kostenko. The two split the first two sets before Kostenko had to retire at the beginning of the third with an injury.
Tallo will now play Washington's Allison Rainey in Saturday's third round.
Also moving into the third round were Katharina Winterhalter and Lucia Sainz. Winterhalter cruised in her two victories, dropping only one game on the day. Her third round opponent will be 14th-seeded Samantha Waller of Cal Poly.
Sainz had an easy time, as well. She lost only six games in her two victories and will play unseeded Camille Pamart of San Francisco. Sainz currently leads the Bulldogs with five victories in the fall.
Fresno State also had a solid day in doubles. The teams of Sainz/Jantz and Tallo/Winterhalter won their matches and advanced into the round of 16.
The ITA Regionals is one of the largest -- and most crucial -- of the fall season. Competition continues through Monday at the Taube Family Tennis Center.
