Haskett/Jantz Fall in Pre-Qualifying at All-American Tournament

FRESNO, Calif. - Jacqui Haskett and Courtney Jantz fell in the third round of the pre-qualifying doubles draw in the Riviera/ITA All-American Tournament, being played in Los Angeles.
After holding a 5-2 lead early in the match, Haskett and Jantz couldn't hold on and dropped an 8-6 decision to Laura Gordon and Elizabeth Lumpkin of UCLA and were eliminated from the tournament. They were the last Fresno State doubles team remaining in the pre-qualifying bracket.
In singles, two Bulldogs will participate in the qualifying tournament, which begins Tuesday at the Riviera Country Club. Katharina Winterhalter, currently ranked 95th nationally, will take on No. 31-ranked Carolin Walter of Baylor at 10:30 a.m. This year marks the first time Winterhalter - who reached the finals of the Bulldog Classic two weeks ago - has participated in the All-American Tournament.
No. 76 Lucia Tallo is also playing in the qualifying draw. She will play 41st-ranked Maja Novacek of New Mexico on Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. The match will be the first of the fall season for Tallo.
"Both Kat and Lucia have tough roads ahead of them, but I am confident they can do some damage in this tournament," head coach Simon Thibodeau said. "Kat played well in the Bulldog Classic, and with those matches under her belt I think she's anxious to get out and continue to improve her game. Lucia hasn't played any matches yet this year, so she's being thrown into the fire a little bit. But I know she will be fine. With all the matches taking place, this is always a very fun tournament for the players and coaches."
The All-American Tournament is the biggest of the fall season. It includes a 128-player singles and 64-team doubles pre-qualifying draw played at UCLA. Those feed into a 64-player and 32-team qualifying tournament played at the Riviera Country Club. The 32-player and 16-team main draw begins play Thursday.
