FRESNO, Calif. - In the midst of one of the most dominating stretches in program history, Fresno State hosts Nevada on Saturday at 6 p.m. in a game with significant postseason implications. The Bulldogs enter 6-3 (3-3 WAC) and riding a three-game winning streak that has seen them outscore their opponents by a combined 164-35. Meanwhile, the Wolf Pack are 5-5 (3-3) and have a shot at their first winning season since 1998. The winner of Saturday's game will have the inside track over the other for one the conference's bowl berths. Saturday's game will be televised by KFRE WB 59 (Comcast cable 5).
Last week, Fresno State turned in perhaps the most dominating effort of the Pat Hill Era in dismantling rival Hawaii 70-14. The Bulldogs set a school record with 503 rushing yards and racked up 679 yards of total offense in posting the program's largest margin of victory since 1991. Bryson Sumlin rushed for a career-high 220 yards and three touchdowns while Wendell Mathis added 179 yards and three TDs of his own as Fresno State rushed the ball 64 times compared to just 11 passing plays. On defense, the Bulldogs allowed Timmy Chang - the NCAA's all-time leading passing yardage leader - to just 167 passing yards as Fresno State defeated UH for the first time since 2000.
Fresno State owns a 21-12-1 all-time lead in the series, which began in 1923. The Bulldogs have won the last five meetings in a row, outscoring Nevada 233-99 for an average score of 47-20. At Bulldog Stadium, Fresno State has a 12-5 edge but only 3-2 since 1983. In fact, the Wolf Pack's last victory in the series came in 1998 in Fresno, a 27-24 victory. However, since then the Bulldogs have dominated, including a 27-10 win last year at Mackay Stadium.
