FRESNO, Calif. - One of Fresno State's most colorful traditions will be held Thursday at 5:30 p.m. in Bulldog Stadium as the 16 senior student-athletes will be participating in the Annual Bulldog Senior Tackle.
The Senior Tackle symbolizes Fresno State's final practice session as each senior runs through a gauntlet of the team to hit a tackling dummy for the last time. Head coach Pat Hill started the tradition in 1997 to honor the seniors in a special way.
"It's an emotional and exciting time for these young men," said Hill. "They are finishing their collegiate experience and preparing to move on to a new stage in their lives. It's a great way to show the younger players how much Bulldog football has meant to these seniors."
The 2004 senior class has racked up a record of 35-16 over the last four years, with three games remaining, and appeared in three consecutive bowl appearances. The Bulldogs are likely headed for a fourth straight bowl. The senior class includes: Jas Bains, Donyell Booker, Kawika Edwards, Therrian Fontenot Todd Garcia, Jamal Jones, Ryan Ledger, Logan Mankins, Brian Morris, Manoa Pouono, Nate Ray, Duncan Reid, Claude Sanders, Stephen Spach, Brett Visintainer and Mark Wood.
The public is invited to attend the Bulldog Senior Tackle. The Bulldog seniors will be honored and recognized during the pre-game ceremonies against Nevada, the final home game of the season.
The Bulldogs (6-3) are coming off three consecutive dominating wins over SMU, Rice and Hawaii thus becoming bowl eligible for the sixth straight year. The Bulldogs have outscored their last three WAC opponents by a total of 164-21.
Approximately 3,000 tickets remain for the Nevada game, which begins at 6 p.m. Tickets for Saturday's game are available at the Save Mart Center, the Bulldog Shop, the Bulldog Ticket Office, via phone at (559) 278-DOGS or online at www.gobulldogs.com.
