FRESNO, Calif. - Fresno State equestrian has teamed up with Fresno County 4-H Clubs and Reyburn Intermediate School to collect approximately 1,000 coats, sweaters and sweatshirts for KIIS Country's Coat-a-thon on Saturday.
The team will transport the 50 large bags of winter-wear in a horse trailer at 2 p.m. to the Cingular store located on Blackstone Avenue, just north of Shaw.
"The equestrian team is proud to partner with other caring groups to make the winter warmer for less fortunate children," head coach Becky Malmo said.
The coat drive is one of several community service events the equestrian team has participated in this year. Equestrian athletes visited Children's Hospital twice in the fall of 2004.
In September, riders brought horses to the hospital for the children to interact with and gave patients a lesson in helmet safety. The student-athletes again visited the hospital in November to team up with local veterans to read to patients during its quarterly Literacy Fair.
Earlier in the season, equestriennes volunteered their services at the Hinds Hospice rummage sale, collecting donations and organizing, tagging and selling the donated items to earn money for Hinds Hospice.
