No. 13 Bulldogs Drop Finale, 4-0, to Hawai'i

HONOLULU - The 13th-ranked Fresno State softball team dropped the finale of a four-game series to Hawai'i, 4-0, in the night cap at the Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium.
Suffering its first WAC loss, the Bulldogs also had their 11-game win streak halted as well as a 19-game WAC streak snapped.
Sophomore righ-hander Laura Ferreira took the loss and fell to 8-5 overall after yielding four runs on five hits with two walks and four strikeouts.
Fresno State and Hawai'i each mustered just five hits in the fourth-game of the weekend series.
Hawai'i's Paula Blanning captured the win after scattering five hits with two walks and three strikeouts to to go 1-2 overall.
UH (23-22, 5-3 WAC) used the long ball against Fresno State for an early 1-0 lead as catcher Denise Dahlberg hit a solo shot in the first inning.
Ferreira had shut down the Rainbow Wahine bats in the next 4.2 innings before Hawai'i picked up three runs in the sixth.
With back-to-back singles, first baseman Tyleen Tausaga notched a RBI after reaching base on a fielder's choice. Ferreira got the next two batters out before allowing a two-run double to second baseman Noelle Izumi.
Fresno State threatened in the sixth inning after freshman catcher Nichole Willis led of with a single to left field. After being sacrificed to second, senior designated player Lori Hoffman hit a shot into center field and advanced to second on an errant throw back into the field of play. With Willis at third and pinch runner Daisy Gaynor at second, the Bulldogs left them stranded on one out.
In the four-game series in Honolulu, sophomore All-America shortstop Christina Clark batted .500 (7-14) with seven runs, five home runs, seven RBI, two walks and 22 total bases for a 1.517 slugging percentage.
Junior All-America pitcher Jamie Southern, who hit .467 (7-15) with a run over the weekend, went 3-0 in the circle with a shutout and 21 strikeouts in 21.0 innings of work for a 1.00 ERA.
In first place with a three-game lead, Fresno State (36-13, 9-1 WAC) is back home this week as it continues WAC action against UTEP on Thur., April 15, 6:00 p.m., and San Jose State on Sat., April 17, 1:00 p.m.
