Spartans Even Series With 5-3 Win Over Bulldogs

SAN JOSE, Calif. - Brad Kilby pitched 3 1/3 scoreless innings in relief to preserve a 5-3 San Jose State victory over Fresno State Saturday at Municipal Stadium.
The Spartans improved to 16-16-1 overall and 6-8 in the WAC while the Bulldogs dropped to 15-22 on the year and 3-5 in conference play.
Kilby allowed just two hits and two walks while striking out three to notch his fourth save of the season.
San Jose State staked itself to a 3-0 lead in the second inning on run scoring singles by David Pierson, Ryan Angel and Anthony Contreras.
Bulldog sophomore outfielder Richie Robnett delivered a two-out run scoring single in the third to trim the deficit to 3-1. With the hit, Robnett extended his hitting streak to a team season high 11 games.
Travis Becktel extended the Spartans' lead to 4-1 with a RBI single in the fifth. Fresno State starter Michael Cooper (2-6) suffered the loss, allowing four runs on eight hits and three walks over 4 1/3 innings.
Fresno State senior infielder Kyle Wilson blasted his fourth homer of the year with a two-run round tripper to left in the sixth off SJSU starter Corey Cabral. Cabral (5-4) scattered three runs on seven hits and two walks while fanning three over 5 1/3 innings to earn his fifth victory of the year.
The series concludes Sunday at 1 p.m.
