Men's Golf Finishes Sixth At Ping Cougar Classic

PROVO, Utah - Fresno State carded a sixth-place finish (864) after the final round of Brigham Young's Ping Cougar Classic, three strokes behind fifth-place finisher BYU with 861.
Colorado State dominated the competition, capturing first with 845, 12 strokes ahead of second-place UTEP. Boise State finished third with 858 and Utah was fourth with 860.
Hawaii's Matthew Kodama surpassed Friday's leader, Chris Baryla of UTEP, for the individual title after winning a playoff against BYU's Ron Harvey and Colorado State's Martin Laird (206) (-10).
The Bulldogs recorded two top-20 finishes, led by junior Ryan Carter in seventh with 211 (73-66-72) (-5) and senior Chad Spencer in a tie for 17th with 215 (73-72-70) (-1). Carter began the day in fifth and Spencer was tied for 26th.
Senior Jeremy Moreno (74-72-75-221) dropped from 32nd after the second round to complete the tournament tied for 43rd with Bulldog sophomore Mark Modglin (76-72-73-221) (+5), who moved up from 46th. Sophomore Ryan McDonald dropped four places to tie for 66th, shooting 77 his final round for a tournament total of 228 (72-79-77).
"Our finish is not going to help us or hurt us terribly," head coach Mike Watney said. "There will remain a lot of questions regarding NCAA selection."
