Bulldogs' Softball Ing Honored with Outstanding Business Student Award

Fresno State softball senior center fielder Mitzi Ing, (Aiea, Hawaii) was honored with the Bulldog Foundation Outstanding Business Student Award at the Eighth Annual Torch of Excellence, held downtown Fresno last evening.
This award is given to the top student-athlete who is graduating from the Craig School of Business. Ing sports a cumulative 3.89 GPA while having been selected to the 2003 Verizon Academic All-District VIII team and chosen as a 2003 Arthur Ashe Jr., Sports Scholar athlete.
Last evening she also was recognized as one12 Torchlighters, an award given to those who have completed eligibility, maintained a cumulative 3.5 GPA and has lettered in two of the last three years, and was bestowed with the Mr. Bulldog Scholarship, an award commemorating scholarship and athletic accomplishments.
Having made the Dean's list seven times and being on the President's List (4.0 GPA) on four occasions, Ing has been a four-year starter in the outfield for the 12th-ranked Bulldogs. Third on the team in batting and fourth in runs, she is posting a career year at the plate.
Currently nominated for Academic All-America consideration in softball, the three-time Fresno State and Western Athletic Conference All-Academic honoree and two-time WAC Scholar-Athlete is majoring in business administration-management.
On a different note, the United States Olympic Committee announced that the USA Softball Women's National Team as its Team of the Month for March.
With former Bulldog All-American and two-time Olympic gold medalist Laura Berg (Santa Fe Springs, Calif.) on the squad, the U.S. Women's National Team was perfect last month after posting a 15-0 mark in its "Aiming for Athens' pre-Olympic tour. The U.S. punished its opponents at the plate by outscoring them (123-3), tallying eight mercy run-rule victories and hitting 21 home runs while batting betting than .380 (.383). The national team's pitching staff proved equally as powerful by posting a sticky 0.24 ERA, recording 170 strikeouts and holding the opponent's below a .100 batting average (.074).
The USA Softball Women's National Team is on its way back home after training in Tirrenia, Italy, from April 8-26. While there the squad also scrimmaged five games and went 5-0 after sweeping Parma (17-0, 19-0) on April 17 as well as the Italian National Team (7-0, 5-0, 1-0) on April 23-24.
Taking a break the next two week, U.S. National Team will resume training on May 10 before resuming its Aiming for Athens Tour in the middle of the month.
