Sophomore All-America shortstop Christina Clark (Santa Ana, Calif.) has been selected as the Western Athletic Conference Player of the Week for the third time of the season this morning.
Clark, who receives the honor for the sixth time in her Bulldog career, helped Fresno State to a 4-0 WAC road mark as the 'Dogs picked up wins over Louisiana Tech and Tulsa.
In the four-game road trip, Clark batted .357 (5-14) with five runs, a double, a home run, two RBI, four walks and nine total bases for a .643 slugging percentage.
Against Louisiana Tech, she posted a pair of multiple hit games and batted .667 (4-6) with three runs, a double, a home run, two RBI, three walks and had eight total bases for a 1.333 slugging percentage. The home run, which was a two-run shot that came on two outs with a 3-0 count in the nightcap, was Clark's 13th of the season. It also was her 28th career long ball as she still sits at No. 4 all-time in school history and No. 7 in WAC history.
Against Tulsa, Clark went 1-3 with two runs and a walk in game one while being held hitless in the nightcap. She scored two of the team's four runs in the Bulldogs' 4-0 win. Going hitless in the second game in which the Bulldogs won 7-5, marked only the seventh time out of 45 games in which Clark did not get a hit as well as being just the third time to not at least reach base this season.
Clark had her 10-game hit streak halted in game two against Tulsa. In the 10-game hit streak she batted .375 (12-32) with 9 runs, a double, 3 home runs, 4 walks, 2 hit by pitch, 8 RBI and 22 total bases for a .688 slugging percentage. Earlier in the year she posted a career-high 13-game hit streak in which she batted .550 (22-40) with 12 runs, 4 doubles, 2 triples, 4 home runs, 14 RBI, 42 total bases and a 1.050 slug pct (hit streak ranks No. 9 all-time at Fresno State).
With the nine total bases collected last week, Clark posted her second straight 100-total base season and has a current season total of 105. Having set the freshman record for total bases (141) a year ago, a mark that is tied for fourth-best in school history, she will look to become just the fourth Bulldog to lead a team in total bases in back-to-back seasons.
