Fresno State softball's senior center fielder Mitzi Ing (Aiea, Hawaii) and junior All-America pitcher Jamie Southern (Clovis, Calif.) were selected to the 11-team 2004 Academic All-District VIII University Division Softball Team, as voted upon members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Named to her second straight Academic All-District VIII Team, Ing has not only put together a career year at the plate but is wrapping up a stellar academic career as well.

Setting a season- and career-best nine-game hitting streak in which she hit .423, Ing is batting better than .300 in her last 12 games and .299 in the last 42. A member of three Western Athletic Conference championship teams, she will wrap up her career as a four-time NCAA Tournament participant.

Garnering her first Academic all-district honors, Southern owns a 3.46 cumulative GPA in liberal studies. Continuing to lead the nation in ERA while being ranked in the top seven in victories all season, she is the 23rd NCAA Division I pitcher to tally 1,000 career strikeouts while recording 19 shutout victories in her 28 wins.
With nine 10-strikeout games, she has allowed just 14 earned runs while averaging 8.4 strikeouts per seven innings. Opponents are batting just a mere .137 against while having thrown a perfect game to go along with six one-hitters and two-hitters to date.
While at the plate, Southern has been a catalyst for the Bulldogs in the No. 2 spot.
