FRESNO, Calif. -
Fresno State softball head coach Margie Wright has announced the signing of three players to suit up for the 2005 season in outfielder Twyla Coffman (Phoenix, Ariz.), utility player Lindsay Milchovich (Covina, Calif.) and left-handed pitcher/outfielder Amanda Nesbitt (Meza, Ariz.).
Coffman, a 5-8 right-handed batter, is a two-sport letterwinner in volleyball and softball at Tolleson Union High School. Earning 4A All-State honorable mention honors in softball the last two years, she also has been a 4A West Valley All-Region selection.
Playing with the 18-gold L'il Saints, Coffman has played on various Amateur Softball Association (ASA) teams that qualified for the 16- and 14-under nationals. In the classroom, she ranks among the Top 10 percent of her graduating class.
Milchovich, a 5-9 right-hander out of Charter Oak High School, can pitch and play first base. Earning All-CIF Second Team honors at utility as a junior, she helped Charter Oak to CIF Division III playoffs for the last three years, including a quarterfinal appearance in 2001.
The three-time First Team All-Miramonte League at pitcher posted a 1.13 ERA last season and hit .405 as a sophomore while compiling a 20-7 record. With a Miramonte league title recorded in 2001, Milchovich also led her prep team to a third place finish as a freshman and a runner-up title as a junior. She has played ASA ball with American Pastime, Cal Lite Gold and TeamSmith Gold.
Nesbitt, a 5-7 left-hander out of Mountain View High School, also has played for the 18-gold L'il Saints team. In her prep career at MVHS, she posted a 54-15 overall record in 469.0 innings of work while averaging nearly 150 strikeouts per season and posting under a 1.00 ERA every year as a starter in the circle.
At the plate, she capped off her senior year with a .510 (46-96) average while recording 14 doubles and 22 RBI. The four-time All-East Valley League selection has been a three-time first team all-league pick at pitcher and a first team all-league honoree at first base. Up for player of the year consideration, Nesbitt batted no worse than .300 every season as she hit .307 with 14 RBI as a freshman, .382 with 21 RBI as a sophomore and .346 with 18 RBI as a junior.
