Vitters Earns WAC Player of the Week Honors

DENVER - Fresno State third baseman Christian Vitters has been named the Western Athletic Conference Baseball Player of the Week for May 24-30.
Vitters, a freshman from Anaheim, Calif. (Cypress HS), hit .455 (5-for-11) in a three-game sweep of Nevada. On Friday, he was 2-for-4 with a home run and two runs batted in. The following day, Vitters hit a game-winning three-run homer with two outs in the bottom of the ninth in Fresno State's 8-7 victory. He finished the week with five RBI, six runs scored, two walks, two home runs and a double. The Bulldogs ended up winning all five of their WAC home series and finished in second place in the standings.
It is Vitters's first career WAC Player of the Week award and fifth for a Bulldog player this year. The player of the week honor is also the fourth straight for a Bulldog, the longest streak of any WAC team this season.
Other player of the week nominations included: senior outfielder Austin Davis, Rice; and senior third baseman Kevin Frandsen, San Jose State.
Additional pitcher of the week nominations included: junior Matt Scott, Fresno State; and junior Wade Townsend, Rice.
