'Dogs drop series opener to Air Force

USAFA, Colo. — Fresno State jumped out to an early lead but could not hold off Air Force, falling 8-5 on Friday afternoon at Erdle Field.
Fresno State drops to 10-20-1 overall and 1-8-1 in Mountain West play, while Air Force improves to 13-18 (6-4 MW).
How It Happened
The Bulldogs struck first in the opening inning as Griffen Sotomayor delivered an RBI double to plate Owen Faust for a 1-0 lead. Fresno State added two more runs in the second, capitalizing on a pair of Air Force errors. Ethan Payne brought home a run on a groundout, and Faust later reached on an error that allowed another run to score, pushing the lead to 3-0.
Air Force responded in the third inning, stringing together timely hits to tie the game at 3-3. The Falcons kept the pressure on in the fourth, taking a 5-3 lead with the help of two unearned runs following defensive miscues by Fresno State.
The game broke open in the sixth inning when Air Force plated three more runs, highlighted by a double from Kayden Bradshaw and an RBI single from Wyatt Hanoian to extend the lead to 8-3.
Fresno State attempted a comeback in the seventh. A passed ball allowed Faust to score, and Sky Collins added an RBI groundout to cut the deficit to 8-5. However, the Bulldogs were unable to generate further offense over the final two innings.
