Inclement Weather Forces Delay of Field Events Schedule

AUSTIN, Texas- Due to inclement weather, the field events portion of Wednesday's competition at the 2004 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Austin, Texas, has been rescheduled for later this evening.
The revised schedule means that freshman Mallory Webb (Dundee, Ore.), who was slated to compete in the prelims of the javelin earlier this morning, will now join teammates Joe Vasquez (Selma, Calif.) and Kara June (Santa Maria, Calif.) in action under the lights at Mike A. Myers Stadium.
The start of the women's javelin has been pushed back to 7 p.m. PST. Webb, who is making her NCAA Championships debut, has six first-place finishes to her credit this year and has thrown distances of 150-0 or better on six different occasions. The men's discus throw, which includes Bulldog senior Vasquez, will also begin at 7 p.m. PST. Vasquez was an automatic qualifier into the event after placing fifth overall at NCAA West Regionals on May 29 with a toss of 174-9 (53.26m). His personal-best in the discus stands at 177-11 (54.24m).
Running events will be completed on schedule. That includes the women's steeplechase at 6:35 p.m. PST, which features June in her second straight NCAA Championships apperance. June received an at-large berth into the event after notching a personal-best time of 10:15.22 back on Apr. 17 at the Mt. San Antonio College Relays. She finished seventh overall at NCAA West Regionals.
