FRESNO, Calif.- Sophomore Cortney Sobrero (Las Vegas, Nev.) tallied eight shots and scored a goal for Fresno State in the Bulldog's attack-minded 2-0 shutout of Fresno Pacific on Sunday night at Bulldog Stadium.
Fresno State finished with a 16-7 edge in the shot department, 11 of which came in the second half and several chalked up as near-misses. Sobrero got the 'Dogs on the board early in the first period at the 16:23 mark when she fired a strike past Fresno Pacific keeper Audra Carter.
Junior Kortney Lewis (Visalia, Calif.) recorded an assist on Sobrero's goal and later found the net herself, arching a shot into the corner of the net in the 68th minute to give Fresno State a 2-0 lead.
The Bulldog offense continued to press from that point on, but was unable to manage a third score. Freshman Mercedes Splettstoesser (Hanford, Calif.) chipped in with three shots.
Three different Fresno Pacific players tallied two shots in the contest.
Sophomore Jeannette Paine (Kelowna, British Columbia, Canada) received the start in goal, while junior Chelsea Mays (Littleton, Colo.) played the second half and notched two saves.
