DENVER - Fresno State senior Courtney Jantz has been named the Western Athletic Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Week. This is the first player of the week of the spring.Jantz, a senior from Spring, Texas, helped Fresno State open the 2004-05 dual match season with a 6-1 victory over Santa Clara. The senior started in doubles, where she teamed with Lucia Sainz to breeze past Kelly Leathers and Erika Barnes at No. 1. That moved the tandem, currently ranked 19th in the nation, to 10-2 on the year.
In singles, Jantz had an easy time with Kimberly Daniel at No. 4 singles, winning 6-2, 6-1. The Texan improved to 7-6 on the year in singles. The Bulldogs' victory over Santa Clara was their 16th in a row at home, dating back to a loss to ninth-ranked William and Mary in 2003.
OTHERS NOMINATED - Rice's Blair DiSesa helped Rice open the dual match season at 2-0 ... Posted wins over Lamar's Andrea Martinez, 7-6(2), 6-0, and Prairie View A&M's Marika Dawkins, 6-0, 6-0. She teamed with Dominique Karas to defeat Lamar's Martinez/Shelander 8-1 ... SMU's Jenny Langer collected her first overall singles win in the No. 1 position against Sam Houston State winning in straight sets 7-5, 6-3 ... Tulsa's Carla Zabaleta posted a perfect 2-0 in singles, including one win at the No. 1 ladder position. In doubles, Zabaleta and Daniela Muscolino defeated the No. 1 team from ORU of Sonia Bailey and Emily Arkell.
