Bulldogs' Winning Streak Snapped With 3-0 Loss In Reno

Reno, Nev. - Coming off of three wins in a row, the Bulldogs ran into a tough opponent in Nevada and were unable to hold on against the Wolfpack, losing 30-13, 30-14, 30-26. The Wolfpack held the Bulldogs to just 27 kills on the match, while making 51 of their own and out-dug the Bulldogs by twenty on the way to the win.
The first two games were completely controlled by Nevada. The Wolfpack recorded seven blocks in the first game, and allowed the Bulldogs just five kills on the way to a 30-13 lead. In the second, the Wolfpack's strong defense continued, while hitting an extremely accurate while holding the Bulldogs to a slightly better seven kills.
The Bulldogs showcased a much improved effort in the final game, hitting .140 as a team and staying close through the entire match, losing only in the final points. Over the match, Nevada libero Christine Harms had 24 digs, and outside hitter Salaia Salave'a had 14 kills on .424 hitting in the match.
Fresno State finishes the regular season next week, as the team travels to Idaho to face Boise State and Idaho in two matches next week. That will finish conference play for the Bulldogs, who will then head to the WAC tournament on Thanksgiving weekend.
Game 1 Recap - The first game opened with an overturned call going Nevada's way, and the Wolfpack took advantage, running off six consecutive points after an Alison Pitton kill got the Bulldogs onto the board. Nevada continued to put the pressure on, using an ace from Carly Sorenson to grab an 11-3 lead. The Wolfpack continued to press their advantage, finally taking a 20-8 before Fresno State gained a side out following a kill from Jessica Peterson. Nevada held on the rest of the way to take a 30-13 win.
Game 2 Recap - The Bulldogs opened the second game with a kills from Alison Pitton and Alisha McKee to grab an early 2-1 lead. Nevada recovered to draw even with the Bulldogs at 3-3, and took a 5-4 lead after a kill from Karly Sipherd. Nevada was able to extend their lead slightly through the game, moving ahead 13-9 after a Salaia Salave'a kill. Fresno State made a side out with a Wiggins kill, but Nevada began another run to take a 17-10 lead before a Bulldog timeout. The Bulldogs cut the lead to 18-13 following a kill from Alisha McKee, but Nevada was able to keep the game in control and took a 30-14.
Game 3 Recap - The two teams started out evenly, but Nevada made an early run to take a 5-2 lead before an Alison Pitton block stopped the three-point Wolfpack run. Fresno State moved back into the game, tying the game at 6 after an Angela Wiggins kill, but Teal Ericson answered back for Nevada. Fresno State continued to pressure, and grabbed a 9-7 lead after a Robyn Keune ace. Fresno State kept a hold of the lead, but Nevada cut into the advantage, and finally tied the match at 15-15. Nevada moved ahead of the Bulldogs 17-15 after a Salaia Salave'a kill. Fresno State responded though, and grabbed a 19-18 lead after a Robyn Keune kill. The two teams continued to stay tight in the final match until the Wolfpack grabbed a 27-25 lead. Teal Ericson helped the Wolfpack with a final kill, and Nevada held on to take the game and the match 30-26.
