FRESNO, Calif.- Fresno State women's basketball head coach Adrian Wiggins has announced the signing of Brittany Allen (Auburn, Calif.) and Stephanie Madden (Bakersfield, Calif.) to national letters of intent. Both players will join the Bulldog squad at the start of the 2006-07 campaign.
"These are two quality young ladies who will help us immensely next year," said Wiggins. "Our roster is loaded with juniors and seniors, so we believe the additions of Brittany and Stephanie help us out down the road. Both players come from winning programs and should be great fits in our system."
Allen, a 5-6 point guard from Auburn, Calif., is currently a senior at Forest Lake Christian High School. Allen, a three-time all-state selection and three-time honorable mention All-American, is rated the 15th-best point guard in the nation and 62nd player overall by Michael T. White's All-Star Report. She is averaging 10.8 points, 7.8 assists and 5.5 rebounds per game for her career. Her high school coach is Steve Keller.
As a sophomore, Allen helped lead Forest Lake Christian High School to the 2004 state Division V championship and a 31-4 record. Last year, her team reached the Northern California championship game and finished 28-6.
"Brittany is a highly-recruited point guard on the national level," said Wiggins. "She has the potential to be a very good player in our league and should make an immediate impact on our basketball program. She is very good off the dribble, which is such a valuable asset."
Madden, a 6-1 forward from West High School in Bakersfield, is the other Bulldog signee. As a sophomore, Madden earned second-team all-league and first-team all-area accolades. In a shortened junior season, she was again named second-team all-league. Madden averaged 12 points and 14 rebounds per game as a junior and posted marks of 16 points and 11 rebounds as a sophomore. Her high school coach is Jill Stephens-McCollum.
Last year, Madden's team advanced to the second round of the Valley Championships. In 2003-04, her squad claimed the Valley Championships title and finished 22-2.
"Stephanie is one of the marquee players in the Valley," said Wiggins. "We are thrilled that she will be joining us as a Bulldog. Stephanie is a highly-skilled power forward, she runs the floor well and can play with her back to the basket. Eventually, I would expect her to be a steady contributor as she adjusts to the collegiate level."
Fresno State opens the 2005-06 season on Friday, Nov. 18, at UC Irvine.
