HOUSTON- Fresno State (15-8, 7-7 WAC) plays its final road game of the regular season on Saturday night when it squares off against Rice (16-8, 9-4 WAC) in Houston, Texas. Tip-off is set for 5 p.m. PST.
Rice leads the all-time series 15-3, while Fresno State is 0-7 in Houston.
After an 81-69 loss at Tulsa on Thursday night, it now becomes imperative for the Bulldogs to get a split on the road this weekend. Fresno State, which is 9-3 away from the Save Mart Center this year, currently stands in a tie for fifth place in the WAC standings and a top-six finish would keep the team out of the WAC Tournament play-in round. Rice is currently alone in second place behind conference leader Louisiana Tech.
Back on Jan. 20 at the Save Mart Center, Rice escaped with a 63-59 victory. The Bulldogs forced 26 turnovers and led 26-24 at intermission but shot just 33.9-percent from the field compared to the Lady Owls' 50-percent clip. Amy Parrish led the Bulldogs with 20 points (9-12 from the free throw line) while Jasmine Plummer nearly recorded a double-double with 14 points and nine rebounds. Rice was led by Lauren Neaves with 18 points and 13 rebounds.
Fresno State saw its three-game winning streak end in the loss to Tulsa on Thursday and the Bulldogs have now won four of their last six. Rice has lost just twice in its last 10 games.
