FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno State Equestrian team had a disappointing third-place finish in the English discipline, the lowest team finish for any show this season, at the Cal Poly Invitational Sunday at the Cal Poly Equestrian Center. UC Davis won the team High Point title with 37 points. Stanford placed second with 28 and the Bulldog were in third with 26 points. Nine teams competed in the event, the final regional show of the season.
Shannon Ragsdale was the only Bulldog with a first-place finish, winning the Novice Flat event. Stacey McCalmont was second in the Beginning Walk/Trot/Canter and several Bulldogs earned third place honors, including Brittany Rossi on Intermediate Fences, Ashleigh Brown in Novice Fences, Tasha Lodwig in Open Flat and Ashley Peterson in Walk/Trot. Lodwig also had a fourth-place finish in Open Fences. Amy Simmons was fourth in Open Flat and sixth in Open Fences. Kristina Chancholo was sixth in Novice Flat.
"It was a disappointing day," said assistant coach Trista Armstrong. "We didn't perform that poorly, but unfortunately we didn't get judged as well as we performed. Sometimes that happens."
Fresno State returns to action March 11 when they host the University of South Carolina at the Fresno State Horse Center.
