California Head Coach Diane Ninemire
On losing first game
"We've had to come back, I think 2001 -- it's been a while, we've had to come back and go to an "if game". I told my club tonight this isn't the situation you want to be in but I guess we'll see what we're made of. I think everybody on this team is up to the challenge and we'll come back tomorrow and give everything we have. The Bears aren't done yet. We're going to go out and play a great game tomorrow. We're going to play one game at a time."
"We've played in tough regionals before and this team is very used to traveling. We've prepared this team through out the year. We're probably one of the very coaches that travel six [or] seven tournaments in the beginning of the year and it's because to prepare us for this moment. I don't want to give any excuses as to why we didn't get it done tonight. We didn't take advantage of our opportunities and they took advantage of their opportunities when they had people in scoring position. It's plain and simple. Tomorrow we've got to execute better at the plate and come up with a win."
Haley Woods
On the collision at home plate: Throw was up the line, I had to come back across the plate and all my momentum was going into the tag. Unfortunately, that is part of the game. My heart goes out to her (pinch runner Emi Snow, who was laying at home plate for 17 minutes and taken to the hospital via ambulance). I'm terribly, terribly sorry, it's so unfortunate that that had to happen. I didn't know she was hurt; I was jogging off the field. I've done that 400 times in my life and it was just another routine at the plate. I turned around because of the screaming and then I realized something was wrong.
Kristina Thorson
On BYU scoring
"I don't know, I can't really say, they just started hitting the ball. I really can't say."
BYU Head Coach Gordon Eakin
On the play at home
"When you get to this level the game is played hard. I don't think there was any malice in it. I just think it was just a hard play. We were trying to take advantage and get another run and she (Woods) was trying to make we didn't get one. In our opinion that's just the way the game is played."
On the BYU victory
"I said this at the initial press conference that we're trying to mirror what Cal is doing right now. We're trying to get the ingredients to be there consistently the way they are so to beat someone you're trying to mirror is obviously huge. We talked it about it today and we were probably the only ones in the country that thought we had a chance to win and that's OK. In my opinion they are the best team in the country, a premier program, classy, come back on you, great defense, great pitching, great offense and they've got everything. So, it's a huge, huge, huge win for us. We came in today with the intention of winning, not just competing and we came in to win."
Summer Tobias
"I was pretty focused. I knew my team would come back because they've come back many, many times. I always have that in the back of my mind. I know they're strong and know they are going to be tough and come back."
