California Head Coach Diane Ninemire
On being an out eliminated from the tournament vs. Long Beach State: At the Florida State NCAA tournament (2001), we were full count with 2 outs, and we scored the winning run. We came back to win with a walk off.
To win that Long Beach State game the way we did, knowing we could come from behind, I mean I liked the way we went out and set the tone and got that first run. Long Beach responded and then Haley (Woods) responded with that big double to end the game, to help us win that game, it was just the spark we really needed for our team. I feel now we are really playing confident and our hitting is back where we know that were capable of playing. I think this team will be very positive and very confident going into tomorrow's game. I hope we start tomorrow where we left off from this evening.
Today, the team showed they have a lot of heart and character and not finished yet. They still want their season to go on. Today, everybody had to dig really deep within herself and bring their best game to the field; we talked about that. They responded and I'm really proud of their efforts. I expect the same type effort tomorrow going in against Fresno State.
Player Vicki Galindo
We needed that game (Long Beach State). It was a turning point. Everyone was up for the entire game. It was just those key hits we needed and we got them.
Player Kelly Anderson
For both games (today), we just tried to go out there and played like we were down by two. We kept saying 'we're down by two'; keep going. We were up the whole day; kept chipping away.
Brigham Young Head Coach Gordon Eakin
We ran out of gas. We played a great team.
