Kucerkova Advances at ITA All-American Pre-Qualifying

FRESNO, Calif. - Freshman Renata Kucerkova advanced in the pre-qualifying rounds of the ITA All-American, Saturday at the Riviera Tennis Club in Pacific Palisades, Calif. Kucerkova defeated Katy Williams of Long Beach State and Nikki Mechem of Texas in straight sets.
"Renata started slow in both sets of her second match, but she really came on strong to finish well," said head coach Simon Thibodeau.
Kucerkova was down 4-1 to Mechem in both sets, but rallied to win 7-6 (1), 6-4. With one more victory, Kucerkova would advance to the qualifying rounds for a chance to participate in the All-American's main draw next week.
Sophomore Tinesta Rowe, playing in the quarterfinals of the California Invitational, lost to Cal's Nina Henkel 6-2, 6-4. Junior Jacqueline Haskett won her singles consolation match, defeating Nienke Strijbis of Saint Mary's, 6-1, 6-4.
Kucerkova will face Kellie Schmitt of Marshall on Sunday at approximately Noon. Sophomore Melanie Gloria is awaiting the main draw to be set for her first round match.
