Wright Named WAC Player of the Week

FRESNO, Calif -- - Bulldog back Dwayne Wright had the best rushing performance in the 84-year history of the Fresno State program when he ran for 295 yards against Louisiana Tech and for his efforts he was named the WAC Offensive Player of the Week.
It was the second-highest rushing total in the NCAA this season. The previous Bulldog record was 252 yards set by Larry Willoughby in 1952. After that performance, he moved into third in the Fresno State record books for both single season and career rushing yards. With his season average he will pass Ron Rivers for the No. 2 spot on the single season rushing chart. Rodney Davis set the all-time record of 1,586 yards in 2002 in 14 games. Wright would need 241 yards in the season finale to break that record.
Wright averaged 11.8 yards per carry and his 71-yard run from scrimmage in the second quarter was the longest of his career and the 25th longest in Bulldog history. He surpassed his season average with 137 yards in the second quarter alone. His previous career-best was 177 yards against Louisiana Tech in 2003. Wright's 200-yard game was the 15th in Bulldog history and the third by the Dogs against Louisiana Tech. Rodney Davis had 221 yards in 2002 and Paris Gaines 203 yards in 2001.
Wright and the Bulldogs wrap-up the 2006 season taking on rival San Jose State Saturday at Spartan Stadium at 1 p.m. The game will be televised locally on Comcast Sports Net.
Fresno State will hold its annual Senior Tackle Thursday, Nov. 30, in Bulldog Stadium immediately after practice (approximately 5:30 p.m.). It's the final regular season practice for the team and each senior will be given the opportunity to talk to the team before taking one final hit on a tackling dummy. The senior tackle is open to the public.
