Bulldogs Lose in Five-Game Shootout

Reno, Nev. - The Fresno State volleyball team lost a five game match by scores of 30-26, 25-30, 30-27, 28-30 and 15-8 against Nevada on Senior Night in front of 687 fans in the Virgina Street Gym. The win was number nine in the conference for the Wolfpack as they improve to 15-10 on the season. The Bulldogs are now 2-10 in the WAC and 4-20 overall.
The Bulldogs were led by many members from the team on every spot of the court. Junior outside hitter Alisha McKee led the club with 17 kills on a .265 hitting percentage. Freshman outside hitter Lacey Gera was second with 14 kills and senior outside hitter Alison Pitton and junior outside hitter Angela Wiggins tallied 12 kills. Lisa Gera led the team with 25 assists and Tiffany Hess contributed 24. Senior libero Cassie Gilford had 17 digs.
The Wolpack looked to be taken by surprise in the first game with the Bulldogs jumping out to a 9-6 lead on a service ace by Wiggins. Fresno State would stay on target to sustain a three point lead at 18-15 on a kill by McKee. The Bulldogs would have their biggest lead of the game by five at 24-19 on a kill by Lacey Gera. Nevada would score the next four points before Fresno State would score on a side out at 25-23. Wiggins would look to put the first game away as she recorded a huge solo block and three kills for the `Dogs at 29-26. Fresno State would win game one 30-26 on a hitting violation by Nevada.
Game two would be a battle from the begging but Nevada would take a two point lead at 10-8 on a net violation by the `Dogs. Fresno State would rally to take a 15-12 lead on two consecutive hitting errors and a net violation by Nevada. The Wolfpack took back the lead and at 22-18 on a kill by senior setter Tristin Johnson. The Bulldogs would go on a 3-0 run with the score at 24-23. Nevada capitalized on a few Fresno State hitting errors and would win game two 30-25.
Nevada would take a 12-11 lead in game three on Bulldog ball handling error. Fresno State would strike back with a lead of its own at 18-15 lead on an attack by Lacey Gera. The Bulldogs would build an even bigger lead at 26-21 on three consecutive blocks which forced Nevada to take a timeout. Lacey Gera would contribute with three kills and give the `Dogs the win in game four 30-27.
The Bulldogs would take an 8-4 lead on blocking assists by Lacey Gera and freshman middle blocker Jamie Temperino. Fresno State would hold its biggest lead of the night at 12-4 on a solo block by Lacey Gera. The Wolfpack would fore the Bulldogs to call timeout as they cut the lead to three at 16-13 on a kill from senior middle blocker Brianne Hall. Fresno State would hold a lead by two at 25-23 on an attack by McKee. Nevada would take a lead by one at 28-27 on an attack by junior outside hitter Teal Ericson. Nevada took game four 28-30.
Nevada would jump out to a 4-1 lead until Fresno State would mark its first point in game five. The Bulldogs took a timeout after a hitting error and a lead by Nevada at 10-4. Nevada would go on to win game five 15-8.
Fresno State will be at home next week for its last two conference matches of the season. The Bulldogs will face Idaho on Thursday at 7 p.m. and Boise State on Saturday at 10 a.m.
