Bulldogs Lose in Four to Vandals

Fresno, Calif. - The Fresno State volleyball team dropped a four-game match 30-28, 26-30, 28-30 and 28-30 to Idaho, Thursday night in the Save Mart Center in front of 1,183 fans.
The Bulldogs, who entered the contest ranked eighth in the Western Athletic Conference, dropped to 4-21 this season and 2-11 in the conference. The Vandals improved to 9-15 on the year and 8-4 in conference action.
In a close opening game that saw two lead changes and four ties, Idaho led by three points at 18-15, and held the lead as late as 19-18. After Fresno State grabbed the lead at 20-19, the Bulldogs would score four points to the Vandals two at 24-21. The game would be tied up at 24 a piece on an attack error by the Bulldogs. Fresno State would surge a late lead and go on a 4-0 run at 28-24. The Bulldogs would go on to win game one 30-28 on a kill by freshman outside hitter Lacey Gera.
In game two Idaho would grab the lead at 11-10 and lead by as many as six at 21-15. The Bulldogs would cut the lead to one at 23-24. After two more points by both teams the Vandals would go on a 3-0 run at 28-24. Idaho would win game two 30-26 after a kill by Saxony Brown.
The Bulldogs started off slow in game three down 5-0 but would eventually tie the game at 10 a piece on a kill by freshman middle block Lexi Watson. The Vandals held a lead most of game three but the Bulldogs would tie it up again at 21-21 and would take a two point lead at 25-23. Fresno State would lose the lead at 26-25 and battle until 29-28 until a kill by Kelsey James put the game away at 30-28.
Fresno State would fight in game four but Idaho would take an early lead in game four at 11-10 and would hold on to that lead at 21-20. The Bulldogs would tie the game up four times with the latest score 26-26. Idaho would go on to score the next two points at 28-26 and put the game just a bit out of reach for the Bulldogs as they lost game four 30-28.
The Bulldogs were led by Lacey Gera who tallied 17 kills for her best hitting percentage of the year at .395 and Nicole Sandino marking 10 kills. Freshman outside hitter Cori Hayes had one of her best matches connecting on eight kills on 20 team attacks for a .300 attacking percentage.
The Bulldogs return to action, Saturday at 10 a.m., against Boise State as Fresno State honors graduating seniors in their last match in the Save Mart Center.
