FRESNO, Calif.- Amy Parrish notched her third double-double of the year, leading three Bulldog players in double-figures during Fresno State's 77-60 victory over San Jose State on Wednesday night at the Save Mart Center.
Parrish tallied 22 points and 11 rebounds for Fresno State (19-6, 11-2), which rebounded from last week's loss at Nevada while inching closer to the program's all-time win mark of 22. With three regular-season contests remaining, the Bulldogs stand in second place in the WAC behind Louisiana Tech.
Parrish did the majority of her damage at the free throw line, connecting on 12-13 attempts to help make up the Bulldog's 26-34 mark from the charity stripe. Chantella Perera, who added 20 points and seven assists, was 8-11 from the free throw line. Mirenda Swearengin chipped in with 14 points and six assists.
Conversely, San Jose State (10-13, 5-7 WAC) was only 10-10 from the free throw line. The Spartans were paced by Amber Jackson's 24 points (10-12 shooting) and 10 rebounds while Lamisha Augustine chipped in with 17 points. No other player scored more than six points.
"We came out a little flat in the first half but I was pleased with how we adjusted after halftime," said head coach Adrian Wiggins, who improves to 26-10 overall and 17-1 in games played at the Save Mart Center. "It was important for us to have a game like this in front of our fans. Hopefully we can continue to finish the year strong heading into the WAC Tournament."
Fresno State shot 48.9-percent overall, racked up 17 steals and forced 25 turnovers. San Jose State held a slight rebound edge at 29-25.
After a slow start for both teams, Fresno State built its largest first-half lead at 17-8 with 10:07 remaining following two free throws from Perera.
Seven minutes later the score was knotted at 21-21 before San Jose State took the lead on an off-balance three-pointer from Augustine. The Spartans led 31-28 at intermission.
The teams traded buckets to begin the second half until Fresno State took control for good following a jumper from Parrish to make it 38-37 with 15:07 remaining.
A triple from Perera with 8:05 on the clock gave the Bulldogs a 58-49 advantage and the lead reached double-digits for the first time at 67-57 following a three-pointer from Tierre Wilson.
Fresno State ended the game on a 10-3 scoring run.
The Bulldogs are back in action Sunday at Boise State. Tip-off is 12 p.m. PST and the game can be heard live on 1430 ESPN Radio, with assistant media relations director Brian Risso calling the action.
