Women's Basketball Holds Annual Awards Banquet

FRESNO, Calif.- The Fresno State women's basketball team held its annual team awards banquet on Wednesday night, with friends, family and department staff gathering for a reggae-style celebration at Coombs Riverbend Ranch in Madera.
Approximately 150 people attended the event, highlighting team and individual accomplishments during the Bulldog's record-setting 2005-06 campaign. Fresno State advanced to the second round of the WNIT and finished the year 24-8, representing the best season in school history.
Mirenda Swearengin (WAC Player of the Year), Amy Parrish (All-WAC First Team) and Jasmine Plummer (All-WAC Defensive Team) were honored, in addition to the Bulldog's five academic All-WAC selections (Toni Atherley, Erica Henry, Chantella Perera, Faith Probst and Kendra Walker-Roche).
After addressing the crowd and recognizing coaches and support staff, head coach Adrian Wiggins announced team awards:
- Team MVP: Mirenda Swearengin
- Offensive MVP: Amy Parrish
- Defensive MVP: Jasmine Plummer
- Most Improved: Brittani Green, Tierre Wilson
- Bulldog Award: Chantella Perera
Fresno State finished 24-8 overall in 2005-06, representing the best season in school history. For the first time ever, the `Dogs qualified for the postseason for the second straight season and recorded two convincing home victories before falling 64-61 at eventual champion Kansas State in the WNIT. The memorable season featured numerous highlights which included: a 15-1 home record, second-place WAC finish and 20 double-digit victories.
