FRESNO, Calif.- When Fresno State hosts Oregon on Sept. 9, a national television audience will be watching. The game is scheduled to be shown live on ESPN2 and will begin at 7 p.m. PT.
The game is one of five Fresno State football games to be shown on the ESPN network family during the 2006 season. Entering this season, Fresno State has made 41 national or regional nation television appearances since the 2000 season.
"This is a game that we have had circled on our calendar for several years," said head coach Pat Hill. "We are excited to have a program like Oregon coming to Bulldog Stadium and very happy the game will be on ESPN2. Mike Bellotti's program is nationally recognized and respected. The last two games in Eugene have been great games and I would expect another great game this season. We are looking forward to it."
Last season, the Ducks beat the Bulldogs 37-34 at Autzen Stadium. Oregon finished the season ranked No. 10 in the nation with a 10-2 record. The only losses were to No. 1 USC and to Oklahoma in the Holiday Bowl.
The Bulldogs open the 2006 season hosting defending WAC champion Nevada on ESPN2. The other nationally televised games are at LSU on Oct. 21, at Boise State on Nov. 1, and at Louisiana Tech Nov. 24.
"We need to continue to get this type of national exposure," said Hill, whose team is 43-8 in Bulldog Stadium in his nine seasons. "Having our first two home games of the year on national television will bring a lot of attention to our program and showcase our university and the Valley to millions of people."
In addition to Nevada and Oregon at home to start the season, the Bulldogs' home schedule features Colorado State of the Mountain West Conference, a 2005 bowl team, and WAC foes Hawaii, Idaho and Utah State. The Idaho game on Nov. 18 marks the return to Fresno of former Bulldog assistant coach Dennis Erickson, who enters his first season as the head coach of the Vandals. He was previously the head coach of the San Francisco 49ers.
