FRESNO, Calif.- Fresno State women's basketball head coach Adrian Wiggins has announced that Brittny Jones has signed a national letter of intent during the spring period to play for the Bulldogs in 2006-07.
"We are excited about having Brittny in our program and expect her to contribute as a freshman," said Wiggins, who guided Fresno State to a program-best 24-8 record last year. "Brittny is a left-handed point guard who is quick and aggressive. She should add stability to our point guard position and fits our style of play very well."
Jones, a 5-6 point guard from Austell, Ga., is expected to add depth to the Bulldog's backcourt next year. Jones is currently a senior at Pebblebrook High School, where she owns the school's career assists record while ranking third all-time in scoring. During her four-year career, Jones averaged 10.9 points, 5.3 assists and 2.4 rebounds per game.
As a senior, Jones led the Falcons to a 22-8 record, regional runner-up finish and an appearance in the state's Sweet 16. In 2003-04, she guided Pebblebrook High School to the best finish in school history as the squad reached the state quarterfinals. Jones, a four-year letterwinner who also played two years of softball, was a three-time all-county selection and two-time all-state pick. A two-time Atlanta Tip-Off Club honoree, Jones also competed on the Georgia Dream Team elite traveling team.
Jones joins a recruiting class that already includes: 5-6 point guard Brittany Allen (Auburn, Calif.) and 6-1 forward Stephanie Madden (Bakersfield, Calif.).
Fresno State finished 24-8 overall in 2005-06, representing the best season in school history. The `Dogs qualified for the postseason for the second straight season and recorded two convincing home victories before falling 64-61 at eventual champion Kansas State in the WNIT. The memorable season featured numerous highlights which included: a 15-1 home record, second-place WAC finish and 20 double-digit victories.
