Fresno, Calif. - The Fresno State offense stepped to the plate for another game, as the Bulldogs won their fifth straight game 12-6. Steve Susdorf was 3-for-4 with four RBI and Erik Wetzel contributed three hits and three runs on the way to the win.
The Bulldogs got out to an early start again on Sunday, as Loren Storey beat out the first of five infield singles on the day to get on base in the first. The speedster then stole second during Kent Sakamoto's at-bat and two throws got away from Nevada fielders, and Storey moved to third and then scored on the errors to give the Bulldogs a 1-0 lead after one.
Fresno State added two more runs in the second inning, as Nick Moresi started out the inning with a single, and after two outs, Erik Wetzel kept the inning alive with a double, and Steve Susdorf drove in the first two of his four RBI on the night with a single to the gap in right.
Nevada got on the board in the fourth, finally getting on the board against Fresno State Andy Underwood as Baker Krukow reached base after being hit by Underwood, and came around to score on singles from Matt Suleski and Ryan Foley. The Bulldogs got the run back that same inning in similar fashion, as a leadoff single by Nick Moresi was turned into a run after singles from Wetzel and Storey.
The big inning had been the key to wins in the previous two games of the series, and Sunday turned out to be no exception as the Bulldogs put together a six-run fifth to take control of the game. A one-out rally started as Christian Vitters singled to right, and a sacrifice bunt from Moresi was fielded by Nevada pitcher Ryan Rodriguez but overthrown allowing Moresi to reach. A second error loaded the bases for the Bulldogs, and Frank LoNigro made the Wolfpack pay with a bases-clearing double to right. Erik Wetzel kept the rally going with a single to left, bringing home LoNigro, and Steve Susdorf tripled down the right field line to make the score 9-1. A sacrifice fly from Storey put Susdorf in the dugout and the Bulldogs moved ahead by nine.
The Wolfpack added three runs in the sixth and seventh innings against Underwood and reliever Brandon Burke, but the Bulldogs answered back with two of their own in the seventh to put the game out of reach. Nevada added two in the ninth to produce the final 12-6 tally.
Fresno State has one more regular season series at home remaining in this season. The Bulldogs host San Jose State for three games next weekend beginning on Friday at 6:35 p.m. After that series, the Bulldogs hit the road for three against Sacramento State before returning to Beiden Field for the WAC Tournament from May 25-28.
