Fresno State Hosts Annual Bulldog Classic

FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno State women's tennis team hosts its annual Bulldog Classic, Sept. 22-25 at the Spalding G. Wathen Tennis Center. The singles tournament is a 64-individual bracket, while doubles begins with the round of 32.
Other schools participating in the event include Fresno Pacific, Nevada, Pacific, Sacramento State, San Jose State and Santa Clara. Fresno Pacific's Jalena Pandzic is the single's top seed, while Fresno State's Renata Kucerkova is the second seed. In doubles, Fresno State's Danon Beatty and Kucerkova are the top seed, while Sacramento State's Joyce Martinez Gutierrez and Luba Schifris are the two seed.
Participating for the Bulldogs are sophomores Beatty, Bruna Paes and Tinesta Rowe, and freshmen Vanessa Heroux and Kucerkova.
"It will be a good opportunity for some of our women to get the year started," said head coach Simon Thibodeau. "We've been practicing very well so far in the fall, so I'm excited to get started this weekend."
Last year's singles champion was Margarita Karnakhova of Sacramento State. Former Bulldogs Lucia Sainz and Katharina Winterhalter were the tournament's doubles champions.
Doubles begins at 8 a.m. and singles will run from the late morning into the afternoon. Admission is free.
