Bulldogs Lose Cross-Town Exhibition Match

Fresno, Calif. - Fresno State played cross-town rival Fresno Pacific in an exhibition match losing 3-0 (27-30,30-32,24-30). The Fresno Pacific Sunbirds were 13-0 overall and the Bulldogs were 2-9 in non-conference play coming into tonight's match. Fresno State's powerhouse junior outside hitter Alisha McKee led the squad with 15 kills hitting .317 and senior libero Cheryl Selenak led the team with 15 digs.
The Bulldogs and Sunbirds battled in a close game one answering each other. With Fresno Pacific ahead and the score at 12-9 freshman Lisa Gera set up McKee for two consecutive kills. Fresno Pacific came right back with a kill from sophomore outside hitter Thais Julio to make it 13-11 Sunbirds. As soon as Fresno Pacific looked to get a lead the Bulldogs would respond right back. Fresno State tied the game up at 22 a piece on a freshman outside hitter Lacey Gera kill on a pass from junior setter Tiffany Hess. Fresno Pacific ran with game one after committing a few errors by the Bulldogs.
The second game was tight between the two squads. With the Sunbirds ahead at 9-8 freshman middle blocker Jamie Temperino tied it up at 9-9 with a pass from Hess. The Bulldogs then tied it up again with a kill by junior outside hitter Angela Wiggins at 19 all from a pass by Lacey Gera. Fresno State took the lead at 29-28 on an attack error on freshman outside hitter Ke Ke Wang but she countered right back with a kill on her own. Fresno Pacific ended taking game two on a junior outside hitter Fabiana Leomil kill at 32-30.
Game three was played from the Bulldogs trailing at times by two or three points. Fresno State could not get over that edge to take the lead. After an attack error by Lacey Gera at 11-9 the Sunbirds held a steady lead throughout the third game. Towards the end of the match the Bulldogs fought back with a kill by Wiggins on a pass by Hess to make game three 25-22. A kill by Wang gave Fresno Pacific the momentum they needed to win the match 30-24.
