FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno State women's soccer team had goals from four different players as the Bulldogs defeated Louisiana Tech 4-0 on Friday at Bulldog Stadium. The win ups Fresno State's record to 7-6 and 2-1 in WAC play while Louisiana Tech dropped to 2-10-1 and 0-2-1 in conference play.
The Bulldogs scored two goals in each half and out shot the Lady Techsters 24-7. The Dogs have recorded shut outs in six of their seven wins. Goalkeeper Kaity Revel had five saves. Friday's win was the first time Fresno State has scored at least four goals in a match since October 10, 2004 when they beat Nevada, 5-1.
Chelsea Davis, Ally Ventura, Nicole Gutierrez and Brittany Thomas tallied the goals for Fresno State while Ali Sill and Andrea Alires each had two assists. Gutierrez and Andrea Salvador also tallied assists.
Fresno State coach Steve Springthorpe was pleased with his teams play, especially in the second half.
"I am pleased with how we finished," Springthorpe said. "I don't think we played all that well in the first half. In the second half we were a lot more dangerous and limited their attempts. Overall I was pleased with the 4-0 win but really it was two different halves."
The Bulldogs jumped on the scoreboard in the 14th minute when Davis tapped in a cross from Gutierrez and Sill. Davis was standing in front of the left post when the ball landed at her feet.
In the 34th minute Ventura headed in a corner kick that was taken by Alires.
"We scored two scrappy goals in the first half," Springthorpe said.
The Bulldogs were a lot more dangerous in the second half as they created 16 shot attempts and held Louisiana Tech to only two.
Gutierrez scored her eighth goal of the season in the 58th minute when she booted in a shot off a pass from Andrea Salvador. In the 73rd minute Brittany Thomas scored off a corner kick from Alires.
"We were much more aggressive in the second half," Springthorpe said. "There keeper made some great saves. I was happy we got so many opportunities scoring goals."
