Bulldogs Advance to Doubles Semifinals at Regionals

FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno State women's tennis team has been very impressive in doubles this week at the Northwest Regional Championships in Palo Alto, Calif. On Sunday, both doubles tandems advanced to the semifinals after impressive quarterfinal victories.
Top-seeded and 11th-ranked Melanie Gloria and Tineta Rowe were 8-2 winners over seventh-seeded and 38th-ranked Bailly and Mizyuk of Nevada. Fourth-seeded and 18th-ranked Renata Kucerkova and Anastasia Petukhova beat fifth-seeded Babos and Kusano of Cal, 8-2.
Gloria and Rowe face Cal's Cossou and Ilcinkas in one semifinal, while Kucerkova and Petukhova take on Stanford's Barte and Nguyen in the other semi at 11 a.m.
Petukhova advanced to the semifinals in the singles draw after beating top-seeded and fourth-ranked Susie Babos of Cal in straight-sets. But Cal's Cristina Visico ended Petukhova's run in the semis with a 6-4, 6-2 defeat of the Fresno State sophomore.
