FRESNO, Calif. - When it comes to community service and involvement, the Bulldogs are always on the ready to answer the call. The Fresno State Equestrian team spent Wednesday at Children's Hospital Central California.
Head coach Becky Malmo took the majority of her 70-woman squad to the hospital. The Bulldogs played games with the young patients and their families, and many spent the morning reading to children.
"This is always a special trip for our team" said Malmo, who had made CHCC a regular stop on their community visit tour. "We had the majority of our freshmen with us, and they hadn't been to Children's Hospital before. To them it was not only an eye opening experience but very rewarding. We have been invited back and are looking forward to another visit real soon."
Malmo and the Bulldogs have been involved in a variety of youth and community activities, including the ReadFresno initiative and the Big Heroes-Little Heroes program. The Bulldogs have also hosted children at the student horse center teaching them how to ride and care for the horses.
Malmo spent her day playing the Candyland board game with the children.
"We received a lot of positive feedback from the parents and staff here," she said. "Children's Hospital is a crown jewel in our community and we are always eager to help any way we can. For your young ladies to have the privilege to spend time with the children is something they will always treasure."
The Fresno State team returns to competition in February.
